HEALTH - There is a significant percentage of people who have undergone LASIK surgery, that they experience side effects from the surgery, the study showed.

The researchers found that three months after the study participants underwent lasik surgery to correct his vision, more than 40 percent of participants reported to researchers experiencing visual symptoms are new, such as feeling glare or see the halo (halo) around the object, which they had never experienced before the surgery, as reported by the Huffingtonpost, Thursday (12/08/2016).

"Our study is one of the few studies that have reported the development of a new visual symptoms after LASIK surgery," the researchers wrote in their study published in the journal JAMA Ophthalmology.

In the study, the researchers meniliti two groups of participants for six months after they underwent lasik surgery. The first group consisted of 262 active personnel of the Navy who average 29 years old. The second group consisted of 312 civilians who were an average age of 32 years.

The participants in this study had previously completed a survey on their vision before surgery, and various surveys after LASIK surgery, such as questions about how satisfied they are with his eyesight, and if they experience visual symptoms such as seeing halos, glare or double vision.

Overall, the researchers found that participants improved vision after the surgery. But 43 percent of people in the Navy group and 46 percent of people in a group of civilians, reported experiencing new symptoms like things above, three months after LASIK surgery.

The researchers found that, although on average they are more satisfied with the quality of vision better after LASIK surgery. But between one and four percent of both groups reported some dissatisfaction with his eyesight after three to six months of operating time.

"The results show that no operation is absolutely perfect" said an ophthalmologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York who was not involved in the study, Dr. Mark Fromer.

However, based on his own experience with LASIK surgery patients, he noted that those who experience visual symptoms such as those mentioned in the study, not to feel helpless due to these symptoms.

"They (patients) should be informed of the risks by an eye doctor, before they decide whether to undergo LASIK surgery," he added.

He continued, "lasik surgery to correct vision, it could be a procedure that was amazing. But surgery should be performed on the right patient. They should be the patient who is willing to accept one of the side effects that may occur after undergoing LASIK surgery, such as dry eye, glare, or double vision. "
