HEALTH - Couples who had a miscarriage, it is advisable not to delay pregnancy for the sake of the success of subsequent pregnancies.

Scientists from the University of Aberdeen found that women are more likely to
have a successful pregnancy if they get pregnant again within six months after a natural miscarriage.

However, these results conflict with WHO recommendations. International health watchdog guidelines recommend women after a miscarriage, to wait at least after six months before trying to conceive again.

Pregnant again within six months of rated researchers were able to reduce the chances of miscarriage by 18 percent and prevent the occurrence of low birth weight by 21 percent. In addition, the risk of preeclampsia in pregnancy also helped reduced.

Lead researcher Dr Sohinee Bhattacharya said, "The study suggests that pregnant again within six months after a miscarriage is the best."

"Women are likely to be more fertile after a miscarriage because of the treatment themselves better and are more motivated to come back to have a child."

This study has been published in the journal Human Reproduction Update by looking at 16 studies involving more than one million women.

Professor Andrew Shennan, Director Tommy's Prematurity Research Centre at Imperial College London, said: "This finding is interesting because it is contrary to current practice, and the general belief that the couple had to delay conception after a miscarriage."

"This new information is very positive and the women should be reassured that they can try to get pregnant as soon as possible after a miscarriage if they want, of course with supervision and consulting a doctor."

And Ruth Bender Atik, national director of the Miscarriage Association, said, "This can be a positive incentive for couples who want to try to conceive again after a miscarriage. Couples may choose to try again the next time they feel ready to do so."

Professor Adam Balen, chairman of the British Fertility Society added, "This large study to convince us that there is no risk if women wanted to try to conceive again after a miscarriage."

According to him, the assumption that after a miscarriage a woman should wait six months before trying to conceive again, should be reviewedc
