HEALTH - You are what you eat, and apparently, this rule also applies to the vagina. Given that diet affects almost all aspects of life, ranging from your menstrual cycle up to the mood, do not be surprised if the diet can also affect your sex organs area.
Here are six foods that you need to consume so that you stay healthy vagina.
1. Eat prebiotics and probiotics.
According to Jennie Ann Freiman, M.D., vagina, as well as your intestines, requires healthy bacteria to fight off infections and maintaining a normal pH. Bacteria in the gut, in turn, also affect the vaginal flora.
To improve the health of the intestine and vagina, Freiman recommend that you regularly consume the prebiotic foods such as garlic, onion and leek raw and probiotic foods like yogurt, kimchi, pickles, sauerkraut, tempeh, and kombucha tea.
According to Brian A. Levine, M.D., consumption of probiotics has been shown to help women who suffer from chronic vaginitis or vaginal discomfort condition that may cause pain during sex.
Prebiotic and probiotic supplements are not a substitute for the natural resources of both. Freiman said, "Formula laboratory can not beat the artificial nature."
2. Consumption of nuts and other healthy fats.
Healthy fats such as those found in nuts, olive oil, and avocado functioning regulate cholesterol levels, maintain estrogen levels remain balanced, and in turn creates a healthy mucous lining that can help ward off infection.
3. Avoid processed foods.
The opposite of prebiotics and probiotics, according Freiman, processed foods can actually suppress the immune system, so that the risk of entry of bacteria and other germs increases.
This can cause all sorts of problems in the vagina, among which are bacterial vaginosis, yeast infection, dryness, pain during sex, and urinary tract infections.
4. Cut down on sugar.
According to Burt Webb, M.D., too much sugar can damage or kill the bacteria important in the vagina, Lactobacilli. As a result, there is increased risk of fungal infections, pain and irritation.
5. Try to avoid artificial hormones.
Certain meat and dairy products contain artificial hormones that mimic estrogen, called xenoestrogen.
According to Webb, this can block estrogen from the vagina, preventing the formation of the mucosal lining, so the chances of infection are becoming increasingly open.
6. Stay hydrated.
"Vagina is similar to the inside of your mouth. If you are dehydrated, the inside of the mouth and the vagina will suffer drought," said Levine.
Hydration can also help prevent vaginal odor becomes flavorful.
