HEALTH - In a study conducted by Duke University, researchers asked volunteers to the condition of prediabetes (a condition in which your blood sugar to rise, but not at a level to be categorized as diabetes) to exercise walking or jogging as far as 22 km a week for 6 months.
Researchers found that people in the walking exercise group increased glucose tolerance by nearly six times higher than the volunteers who exercise jogging. Glucose tolerance is a measure of how well the cells of the body is able to absorb blood sugar.
Further research needs to be done to find out the reasons why walking seems to be able to protect people from diabetes, said study author Cris A. Slentz, Ph.D. from Duke University. Researchers have several theories.
One possible reason is, when you do exercise walking with a moderate level, your body can enable storage of fatty acids for fuel, more than when you exercise with higher intensity such as jogging.
Too much fatty acid can make the body become more difficult to process the hormone insulin. If your body can not use insulin effectively, the body's cells can not absorb blood sugar from your bloodstream. As a result, the body will produce more insulin to try to compensate for that condition.
Finally, you can not produce enough insulin to remove sugar from the blood and the blood of this trigger condition prediabetes and diabetes.
Until further research is done, it is still not quite clear whether walking can affect healthy person's body in the same way against them that prediabetes.
However, this finding applies to more people than you might expect. Under conditions of prediabetes,
So if you have a pre-diabetic condition, your fasting plasma levels of glucose is between 100 to 125 milligrams perdesiliter (mg / dL). Under conditions of diabetes, your glucose plasma levels is between 126 mg / dL or more.
It became an ideal point for you to start incorporating walking exercise plan into your training schedule.
Still, do not underestimate the benefits of high-intensity exercise such as jogging. High-intensity exercise has its own benefits of which is to strengthen the heart, as well as improve mobility and other body functions, said Slentz.
Combining walking with running, will give the benefit optimal for your health.
